Council of Europe
Council of Europe: established in 1949. It aims to strengthen democracy, human rights and the rule of law in member countries. It now has forty members. Its secretariat is located in Strasbourg. See also Council of the European Union from which it is organizationally distinct, though there is close cooperation between them.
