METI
METI: the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Until 6 January 2001 it was known as MITI (Ministry of International Trade and Industry). Many see the dirigiste industrial and trade policies administered by MITI as a major reason for Japan’s post-war economic success. Others have tried to emulate MITI, but without much success. METI itself has now become a market-oriented ministry.
