Trade and foreign exchange
Trade and foreign exchange: suggested by some for consideration in the WTO as a new trade issue. It concerns the relationship between international trade and the exchange rate system. Proponents tend to subscribe to the view that the system of floating exchange rates is one of the causes of protectionist pressures on the trading system. Others claim that it was the fixed exchange rate system that led to protectionism. Few seem to be keen to start early negotiations.
