WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty
WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty: adopted on 20 December 1996. It gives performers (actors, singers, musicians, dancers and others who perform literary or artistic works or expressions of folklore) moral rights (the right to claim to be identified as the performer of performances), economic rights in unfixed performances (the right to authorize the broadcasting, etc., of unrecorded performances), right of reproduction (the right to authorise direct and indirect reproduction of recordings) right of distribution and the right to make available to the public recordings of performances. These rights are balanced by rights to producers of phonograms (the person responsible for the first recording of a performance), including the right of reproduction, right of distribution, right of rental, and the right of making available phonograms. See also neighbouring rights and WIPO.
