Loss of French nationality
More often than not, the loss of French nationality is deliberate and made by declaration or by a decision of the public authorities. Nevertheless, in very specific cases, it may be involuntary (judgement, forfeiture) or result from the implementation of the Strasbourg Convention of May 6, 1963 (dual nationality). Two categories of the loss of French nationality can be distinguished : - losses of French nationality resulting from a request by the persons concerned: declaration of loss underwritten by French persons having acquired a foreign nationality, declarations of repudiation (French children in certain conditions, French spouse of a foreigner), decrees of the loss of French nationality (release from French allegiance) , - losses of French nationality decided by the Government - de jure withdrawal, forfeiture.
