Today, especially in soccer, term for scoring three goals in succession in one half of the game by the same player, without a goal being scored by his own or the opponent team in between. The term is also used for three victories in sequences achieved by one team. A hat trick is also known as three victories of one nation in automobile sport. The idea behind a hat trick also underlies the common custom in some cup events, where a challenge cup goes into possession of the team or individual who has won the event three times. (H.Haag &g.
