Leaching (1) The washing out or flushing of a soluble substance from an insoluble one. (2) The flushing of salts from the soil by the downward percolation of applied water. (3) The process by which soluble materials in the soil, such as salts, nutrients, pesticide chemicals or contaminants, are washed into a lower layer of soil or are dissolved and carried away by water.
